Napster is a software program that allows anyone to find their favorite music by connecting them to the computers of millions of other users. Its software also combines chat features and a music player, besides letting its users share their MP3 libraries with each other. Its aim is to make finding MP3 files on the Internet easier then ever. No files are actually hosted on Napster servers. Napster only provides access to music files on others' computers.
In addition to its search features, Napster contains three major components:
A chat program to enable users to chat with each other in forums based on music genre and interests.
An audio player to play MP3 files from within Napster, in the event that users do not have an external player or prefer not to use one.
A tracking program to allow users to keep track of their favorite MP3 libraries for later browsing and organizing.
Napster works OK with a phone modem connection, but it 'rocks' with DSL, Broadband and Cable connections. Downloads are super-fast...
For those of you that still have phone modems, I recommend the use of internet connection and computer enhancers such as Netsetter (a free high-speed online network), SpeedLane (an internet optimizer) and WinRocket (a computer optimizer), to speed-up your Napster downloads.
